Friesian

A breed of dairy cattle originating from the Dutch provinces of North Holland and Friesland, and Schleswig-Holstein in Northern Germany and Jutland known as the world’s highest-production dairy animals.

Characteristics

  • Friesians have distinctive black and white markings
  • Large dairy production, averaging 7,655 litres of milk per year
  • A healthy calf weighs 40 to 50 kg
  • A mature Holstein cow typically weighs 680-770 kg
